2022 McKinsey alumni retreat, November 4-5 (Silicon Valley)
Dear friends and fellow McK Alumni,
After over two plus years of pandemic related postponements, I am very excited to announce we are moving ahead with one of my most treasured weekends of the year – McK Alumni retreat on November 4th-5th, 2022 in Silicon Valley, CA.
The primary goal behind these retreats has always been to facilitate McKinsey alumni reconnecting with old friends and colleagues, and to provide an informal venue for maintaining the strength of our alumni network beyond the annual official events sponsored by individual McKinsey offices. This is a unique opportunity to meet other successful alumni, learn something new and interesting, and have fun in an intimate format.
Your confirmed registration greatly helps the Host Committee with planning and logistics, so please ensure your attendance by registering for the event ASAP.

Please see below for the complete details for our event:
Date Friday, November 4th and Saturday November 5th
Location Silicon Valley, CA
We have designed these events to represent the best of our shared McKinsey experiences – learning from and having fun in a relaxed, yet impactful environment.
- Capital Connection for investment related presentations
- Ted Talks for content and knowledge sharing
- Dinner and socializing
FRIDAY’S CAPITAL CONNECTION:
Given the shorter than usual planning window, we will not do the company presentations/VC panel as in the past. Instead, we will be sharing updates on two investment groups that have been formed since our last gathering:
- Super Angel Collective – selective co-investments in exciting mid- and later-stage companies as a direct investor (presented by Julian Castelli and Wade Hansen)
- Marvin Angels – an early-stage investment fund focused backing ex-McKinsey founders (presented by Shyam Chidamber)
- We will try to have a representative company presentation related to each of the above, to provide examples of the types and stages of deals each group is making
TED TALKS:
In line with our prior events, we will be hosting a collection of “Ted Talks” on today’s most relevant, interesting, and educational topics as part of the professional program on Saturday morning.
If you’d like to contribute to the professional program or showcase your expertise/passion in a 15-20 min Ted-style talk, please email me at [email protected].
Topics can be serious, entertaining or educational. One topic already confirmed will be the creation of an alumni led internship job board for high school and college age children of alumni to find quality internships with alumni executives as hosts.
DETAILED AGENDA
We will begin with the Investment Opportunity presentations on Friday afternoon, followed by the formal kick-off of the Retreat on Friday evening with a cocktail reception/group dinner. Saturday, the morning will include a catered breakfast and lunch, with Ted-Talk alumni content on interesting and eclectic topics. In the past, topics have included presentations on non-verbal communication, emotional leadership, the impact of augmented reality, including demos for all attendees in the latest technologies not even available yet commercially!
Saturday afternoon is ‘free’ time, but typically small groups form for various activities in the area. Saturday night is a cocktail reception followed by a closing dinner. Usually about half of attendees are coming in from out of town and stay at a hotel near the event venues.
